Recap: Sunday Football - Winnetka - 12-26-16

Team Mike:
Mike, Dylan, Chris, Stu, Ed, Davey, H, Aaron, Keith

Team Frank:
Frank, Tony, Darius, Steve, House, Bill, Sam, Cooper, Danny

Touchdown plays:
Team Mike:
Touchdown #1: at the three yard line, our defense ran 4-2 coverage, but it was not clear who was in what position. Chris, from the right side of the formation came free with no one close to him when he caught the ball.

Team Frank:
Touchdown #1: at the goal line, Danny running an out to the left, House with a post corner from the slot, Steve as center on a comeback, and the rest of the offense running routes to the right to keep the left side clear.

The pass was a throw away (only third down) but going into the wind, the ball got knocked back some, and house one-handed it for the touchdown.

Touchdown  #2: house and Darius split wide right, Danny from the slot in trips right. House and Darius ran up to clear for Danny, and his quick out to sideline created opening for touchdown.

Touchdown #3: fourth and goal from about the 15/20 yard line. Darius isolated to the right against stu. Darius ran the post corner route we missed during the Turkey bowl and made a great catch along the sideline for the touchdown.

Touchdown #4: house split wide right, Bill from the slot, Steve as center. Double pass with option to throw back to the qb. The rusher (Chris) did not go after house for fear house would throw it back to me. So no pressure on house and he threw a wobbler to Bill for the touchdown.

Interceptions:
Team Mike:
Interception #1 - With Danny in the slot right, there were routes going up the field on both ends, and it looked like Danny would have a clear lane down the middle. But Stu read the play well and I didn't get the ball far enough downfield and it was intercepted.

Team Frank:
Interception #1 - in man coverage, about 15-20 yards from the end zone, I was matched up against Aaron. He ran a deep out to the front pylon, but I sat back in almost a "zone" look, and when the ball was thrown, I got a good break on it and caught it with outstretched hands.
Interception #2 - Cooper caught a tipped ball that was thrown across the middle.
Interception #3 - Cooper in the end zone on 4th down. The ball was kind of thrown up for grabs in the back left corner (towards the baseball fence).
Interception #4 - on 4th and 20, the ball was thrown to Aaron at the first down marker, I got in front of it and didn't get a good angle to knock it down, so I caught it and ran it back as far as I could. (this was the one where I ducked and got kicked in the head by mike's knee)
Interception #5 - Cooper jumped a short route over the middle.

Missed opportunities:
Both teams threatened the end zone multiple times in the red zone.

Team Frank:
On fourth and goal, Darius on an out pattern with Steve in the slot. Darius was matched up one-on-one agains Stu, with Stu setting up about 3 or 4 yards in the end zone. It was an easy read because Darius' route was a quick out at the goalline (we were about 4 yards away, so the resulting cushion between Stu and Darius was enormous) But Darius ran in route quite deep in the end zone, and I had to wait for him to make his break. Stu got a hand on it to knock it away.

On Fourth and goal again, I had Steve running a corner route to the right, and Bill running a corner route to the left, but nothing materialized and I had to throw it away.

Fourth and goal (from about the two yard line), we ran a pick play for Danny (with Ed in man coverage). Bill stepped up across the line, and Danny ran a quick out. But the pass was behind Danny and he tried to one-hand it and it fell incomplete.

Recap: Sunday Football - Winnetka 12-4-16

Team Andy/Dave
Andy, Dave, Mike, Perry, Aaron, Keith, Sam

Team Frank
Frank, Dave, Alan, Steve, Cooper, Craig, Bill, Ed

Touchdown Plays:
Team Andy/Dave
Touchdown #1: with me rushing, Cooper and Steve playing the back of the 3-2 zone. On 3rd down, Mike ran a go route from the left split, with Aaron in the  slot. Cooper mistimed his jump, and tipped the ball near the first down marker (line of scrimmage was the 10 yard line). Mike outran Cooper to the endzone.

Team Frank:
Touchdown #1: alignment: Steve, Bill, Dave, Alan, Ed (or could have been trips right). Alan running a skinny post and Ed on the go route. No one was over the top, and Sam got there very late after the ball already thrown to Ed. Ed ran the rest of the way for a touchdown.

Touchdown #2: Similar alignment to touchdown #1 with same route combos. Alan on the skinny post made a shimmy to the outside and got inside position. I was afraid the throw would be too high, but it ended up right on the money, and in the end zone.

Touchdown #3: Steve, rushing Andy as QB, and batted down the pass, caught the deflection and outran andy to the endzone.

Interceptions:
Team andy/dave
INT#1: On a double pass, I threw to Steve who had stepped back. He waited and threw to me. But the pass rush was on me quick, and i could not pick out my teammates in time and just floated one into the middle of the field. Aaron dove under for the INT.
INT#2: Bill from the left slot was supposed to run an over route (on top of Ed and Cooper). But he ran is a little under. The pass to him was behind him, and he hit it with his hand, and Andy? or Keith? was able to catch the deflection.

Team Frank:
INT#1: In 3-2 zone, with andy scrambling, he lofted a pass down the left sideline that was way over for anyone on his team, but I caught it running away from the line of scrimmage.
INT#2: Cooper on a contested ball was able to come away with it on a deep pass to the right side.
INT#3: In the red zone, about 10 yards out, we were in man coverage. Alignment was Dave, aaron, perry, Keith, Mike. our defense, Alan, myself, Dave, Cooper, Steve. Dave ran the over route from the right split, with aaron running the out underneath it. Alan and I nearly collided, but Andy's pass was late and I intercepted in the end zone.
INT#4: Steve playing deep picked off an easy pass that was lofted into the middle of the field.
INT#5: Cooper from the left half of the 3-2, on a deep ball to Aaron got the pick in the middle, just in front of the endzone.
INT#6: Similar play to INT5. Dave or andy tried to loft a ball into the middle of the field into the endzone. From the left safety spot, I got back to the ball and picked it off from a trail position.

Recap: Turkey Bowl - Hyde Park 11-26-16

Team Jonah:
Jonah, Brandon, Silas, Vee, Anthony, Robbie

Team Frank:
Frank, Vince, Drew, David, George

Touchdown Plays:
Team Jonah:
Touchdown #1: Long bomb to Bobbie in man coverage
Touchdown #2:
Touchdown #5: On a blitz, we failed to align our defense properly and Jonah lofted an easy pass to Vee for the touchdown.

Team Frank:
Touchdown #1: Off of play action/fake screen, dave, from center, ran an out, and B. Best overplayed the out, leaving David with the up route. The pass looked a little long, but David was able to run under it and waltz in for the touchdown.

Touchdown #2: Drew lined up as the HB, vince split left, George split right. I walked up to Vince to pretend to discuss with him, and as I was walking back to the backfield, we snapped the ball and I took off down the middle of the field. Drew threw a good pass and we scored.

Touchdown #3: Anthony was subbed in on our side. I tossed him a pitch to the left, and Anthony made a great move inside, and then Vince came back and had a good block to seal the lane for Anthony. Anthony was able to fight off Vee's attempt to pull his flag and it ended up being a 50 yd TD run.

Touchdown #4: George on a go route into the back of the endzone.

Interceptions:
Team Jonah:
INT#1: in the red zone, George was split left, and ran a comeback to the sideline. I threw the ball high and inside, and it glance off of his hands and Vee was able to intercept it.

Team Frank:
INT#1: Near the red zone, Jonah lofted a pass that went right to Dave.

Recap: Turkey Bowl - Winnetka 11-24-16

4 teams, 2 games, and then switch matchups
Team Mike:
Mike, Derrick, Dylan, Alan, Matt, Tim, H

Team Frank:
Frank, Jim, Phil, Darius, Dave, Omar, Scotty

Team House (Lars)
Lars, Steve, Jason, Patrick, Lar's cousin, Sam, Kile

Team Jim
Jim, Pete, Tom, Rishaan, and a bunch of other guys we don't know well.

Game 1:
Team Mike v. Team Lars

Team Frank v. Team Jim
Touchdown Plays:
Team Jim:
Touchdown #1: On the first play of the game, I threw an INT return for TD. That was the only TD Team Jim would score.

Team Frank:
Touchdown #1: Darius from split wide right, on a Z-in-Z-out route, Rishan slipped and fell and Darius walked in for the score.
Touchdown #2: Under duress, I tried to throw to Davey in the middle, but luckily, Darius came from right to left to grab the ball and score.

Missed opportunities:
On third and goal, form about 20 yards away, Darius mistimed his jump and the ball glanced off is hands.
On fourth and goal form about 25 yards away, Darius ran a post corner route and the ball skipped off his hands because he says I threw the ball to far into the flat, and without enough depth (he was running deeper to the corner, instead of just breaking it off after juking the defender to the inside.

Game 2:
Team Mike v. Team Frank
Touchdown plays:
Team Frank:
Touchdown #1: Darius running to the back of the endzone from the slot, and Jim running a quick out to the right, Davey found a seam running to the right, and I hit him with a shovel pass after eluding the rush.

Team Mike:
Touchdown #1: In man coverage, Scotty rushing Mike, but was juked, and Mike found Dylan in the back left corner of the endzone with Omar in coverage.
Touchdown #2: In man coverage, I was lined up over center, but worried about the mismatch with Davey on Matt. So I was leaning to the right (where Matt was lined up). Mike came back to Dylan on an inside route underneath Omar.

Interceptions:
Team Frank:
INT #1: Mike had Derrick run an out and up from the left slot (our right), but underthrew it and I caught it in the endzone.
Team Mike:
INT #1: on fourth and 1, Darius ran an out-and-up route against Dylan and broke free, but because I had pumped to Darius on the out, my shoulders were already opened-up, and when I reloaded to throw to Darius, I did not get the ball around my body far enough, and the ball was thrown too far into the middle where it was intercepted by Cooper.

Recap: Sunday Football - Winnetka 11-20-16

Team Mike:
Mike, Danny, Rishan, Patrick, Brian, Andy, Scotty, Pilot Dave, Cooper

Team Frank:
Frank, Jonah, H, Bill, Craig, Alan, Sam, Jason, Davey

Touchdown Plays:
Team Mike:
Touchdown #1: In cover 2, Scotty was able to get free down the middle on a long pass for a TD (maybe 30/40 yard pass).
Touchdown #2: (while I was sitting), in the redzone, Rishan ran a corner route to the back left for a wide open touchdown.

Our drives stalled in the red zone a few times, and we could not match up with the speed of Danny and Rishan.

Near misses:
On first play of the game, nearly intercepted the pass, thrown right at me, except I was interfered with by Patrick.
In man coverage, Mike sent Danny on a deep fade route from the seam, but I let him go and read the pass to the middle of the field, and knocked the pass away (but should have caught it)
In zone coverage, with Cooper split wide right (our left), and Rishan or Danny to my right, I showed hard coverage to the right, but after the snap, raced back to the middle anticipating a throw to cooper because of the coverage mismatch (might have been agains Alan or Bill, or H). Again, the ball slipped through my hands.
In the red zone, with Team Mike at the doorstep of the endzone, he fired a pass into the middle for patrick that went through everyones hands and hit me in the chest as I was playing for the deflection.

Recap: Sunday Football - Winnetka 11-13-16

Team Mike:
Mike, Danny, Kile, Omar, Brian K, Ed (wore sleeveless shirt), Andy (reggie white jersey), Patrick, Tim, Pilot Dave

Team Frank:
Frank, Darius, H, Steve, Scott, Craig, Warren, Jason, Sagar, Alan,

Touchdown Plays:
Team Mike:
Touchdown #1: Team Frank in man coverage from about the 15 yard line, Andy beat Warren on a slant/post route because Warren simply does not have the foot speed to keep up with Andy.
Touchdown #2: (Warren rushing), in zone coverage, Mike found Pat on a outside route from about the 15 yards away.

Team Frank:
Touchdown #1: Darius running a slant route from the left. He stopped his route in the slot as drawn up, so me under duress and continued his route. I threw sidearm, behind the rusher for the touchdown. We were about 5 yards away.
Touchdown #2: Darius running a out route short of the end zone, Steve running a flag route to the back cone. Team Mike in zone coverage, with Brian playing the shallow right (our left) and Dave covering the back pylon. Darius got past Brian and I saw the opening and Darius caught the ball in the end zone.
Touchdown #3: H running a flag-post route from the left slot, with Sagar running a wheel route to the left. Omar came on the rush, but missed the tag. Scotty in man coverage on H overran his coverage allowing H to break back to the ball in the middle of the end zone (we were about 15 yards from the end zone).

Missed opportunities:
Team Frank: we must have been in the red zone four or five times without scoring. Our very first drive ended at about the 10 yard line, but the pressure did not allow me to get the ball off and fell short of Darius in the end zone. Two other drives ended from about the 15 yard line. Those two drives I tried to go to steve, but both throws were not on the mark and had no chance of getting to Steve to even make a play. On one of the throws to steve (where he was running back of the end zone from the left slot), H ran a out form the right end, Sagar was running a deep out to the back of the end zone. I read man coverage and perceived H and Sagar to be covered. But it turns out it was a zone, and the man in front of Sagar let him go.

On a short fourth down play, bill ran a comeback just over the 1st down line. But he didn't get enough depth on the route, allowing Brian to sit on his route and break up the pass.

On a third and long, Bill and Jason were to run deep routes (Jason fly, Bill post) with Sagar running an out route underneath the action. Sagar was able to draw the up man, (there were only two men in the zone on that side of the field), but Bill ran a flag route, and Jason adjusted to Bill by running a post route, and both guys ended up in front of the defender, effectively taking themselves out of the play.

Interceptions:
Team Mike: The play was designed to have Jason run up the left seam at the safety, with H running a fly route and Scott running up the right seam. Scott popped open, but the throw was a bit too far inside and Kile picked it off easily.

Team Frank:
Interception #1: In the red zone, andy or Ed or Tim was unable to corral the pass, and the defection hit me in the left hand and I was able to grab it.
Interception #2: While running a 3-2-1 defense, Mike tried to hit Dave or Andy over the left seam (their right), I saw the play and was able to intercept and return the ball past the 1st down marker.
Interception #3: another tipped ball that fell into my hands around mid field.

Strategy and Observations:
On offense: Team Mike was running a zone for most of the game, even when I would line up one receiver to the left, and four to the right. The zone was very weak on the right side because we had the overload (four receivers vs. three defenders)

On defense: Because of the lack of overall team speed on both teams, we were able to run a 3-2-1 zone concept with three defenders covering the shallow routes, two intermediate defenders taking away the seam routes and deep out/flag routes, and one deep safety to help on all deep plays. With myself at the top of the 3-2-1, Team Mike rarely completed anything beyond 15 yards (sole exception a really well thrown ball to Pat up the seam. But that may have been in the 4-2).

Recap: Flag Football Tournament - Winnetka - 11-5-16

Seven teams, single elimination format. Team Lin received first round bye.

Team Lin:
Frank, Jonah, David Greenfield, Tony, Brian Tait, Cooper, Aaron, Keith, Stu

Team Averill:
Mike, H, Darius, Kile, Steve, Derek, Dylan, Brian Kirkpatrick, Chris.

Other teams:
Jim, Pete, Rashan's team (wore red)

The Panthers (blue camouflage)
Quarterback was not very accurate, nor mobile. Was easily rattled by pressure. The Panthers played in river trails against Brian and Tony, and lost twice to them, only winning the 3rd meeting because Brian and Tony's team only had 4 guys show up.

Green Team (defeated Jim and Pete's team, and Team Averill)
Quarterback had decent arm strength, but would check down immediately to the center or other lineman if rushed by two defenders. Short asian guy was assigned to rush most plays. The girl on their team was fairly tall (maybe 5'9?) but not quick enough to stay with any active male.

Team Red (Jim and Pete's team)
Jim plays quarterback for this group. His arm strength is below average and accuracy is also below average. I would rate his decision making below average as well. His ability to play quarterback does not strike fear into any defense. Pete and Rashan have speed and quickness.

Team Lin v. Panthers (Game #1, 2:00pm, West Field)
Our team started with the ball after winning the coin toss, and we promptly moved it down the field for a touchdown (I think to Dave or Jonah). The flood routes with the WR, FL and RT worked very well, with the RT coming open time and time again. Quick releases to the center were also very effective. On defense, our defense shut them down with a four and out. The quarterback would look to check down immediately once pressured, and his check down options did not run well with the ball.

We scored a second touchdown quickly thereafter and also converted the extra point (to David). We intercepted the Panthers, but our drive stalled in the red zone. (too many attempts to get into the end zone and not enough blocking) On the ensuing drive, the Panthers were able to drive all the way down the field for a score. The big plays were primarily because of missed flag pulls. The QB would throw a short pass under duress to an open receiver underneath, and he would get five to six extra yards before our team converged to pull the flag.

In the second half, we intercepted the Panthers again, but on 4th and 1, Cooper ran a square out from LT, and never turned around for the ball. He read Tony or Brian coming on a slant route and tried to give the receiver the right of way. We forced another INT or turnover on downs and steadily marched down the field. We scored on a play to Keith, where he ran almost the exact same route as Cooper. The Panthers had switched to man defense at this point, and the matchup heavily favored Keith (they put a slow guy on him). The Panthers were able to come down and score again; once more, because of poor flag pulling allowing them to gain yards after the catch. They scored a touchdown, and our ensuing drive stalled. But we forced a four and out, and knelt out the rest of the game. In the second half, we began to rush two rushers (Aaron and Jonah) which put a tremendous amount of pressure on their QB and did not give him time to find any check downs.

Team Lin v. Team Green (Game #2, 3:00pm, East Field)
Team Green chose to defer. We opted for the ball. Our first drive moved quickly down the field. Per scouting report from Team Averill, the Green Team ran a 7-person zone, and rarely rushed. We came out of the gate with plays that included routes for all 6 people, but Team Green was rushing one, so we dialed it back and kept in some blockers. The flood routes still worked, as they Team Green played sort of a deep cover three, with a deep under three (and usually rushed the small asian guy). The comebacks and quick hitters in the seam were available almost all day long.

We scored on our first drive and second drive. David catching the second TD and rumbling into the end zone.

Green threw a deep bomb on the right against Keith, which got them into the red zone and eventually scoring on a little slant-out route in front of Cooper. At the end of the half, with Green driving again, all the way to the one yard line, Stu picked off a pass in the end zone with about 2 seconds to play.

In the second half, Green stalled, and we drove down and scored; Jonah juking three or four defenders on his way to the end zone. On the ensuing drive, Green threw a short pass to the center who got into a tussle with Brian. He was assessed a 10 yard penalty and tempers started to flare. But Brian stepped in front of a check down pass intended for the center and returned it for a touchdown, effectively ending the game.

Recap: Sunday Football - Winnetka 10-23-16

(Al's last game, so they made it "old-timers" vs. "new guys")

Team Al:
Al, Steve, H, Mike, Tim, Davey, Pilot Dave

Team Frank:
Frank, Jonah, Kile, Cooper, Pat, Dan, Warren

Touchdown Plays:
Team Al:
Touchdown #1:
Touchdown #2:

Team Frank
Touchdown #1: INT return by Pat
Touchdown #2: while scrambling, Jonah broke free coming from right to left in the end zone.
Touchdown #3: Jonah on a Z-in Z-out route from left end, Cooper snapping, and running a corner route. Jonah caught the touchdown pass because he ran his route too deep (to back pylon, instead of front pylon). Cooper would have had an easy catch in the back of the left end zone.
Touchdown #4: INT return by Jonah
Touchdown #5: Warren ran a angle route to the left by himself, with Kile, Dan, Cooper running routes to the right. Warren's route opened up the middle for Jonah to catch an easy pass for the TD.
Touchdown #6:

Strategy:
Offense: we had favorable matchup at every position. Jonah was the quickest player on the field, and Team Al had to respect Kile and Jonah's speed and ability to go deep. But we kept things simple, taking easy throws to the sideline and underneath in the middle.

Defense: Again, we had the matches, and played a lot of man-to-man to force tight throws. The few occasions when we flipped to zone coverage really flummoxed Al, with many throws not even getting close to the receiver. Cooper, Jonah, and Pat all had INT's.

Recap: Sunday Football - Winnetka 10-16-16

Team Mike v. Team Al

Team Al:
Al, Cooper, Tim, Steve, H, Sam, Pilot Dave, Chris, Davey

Team Mike:
Mike, Kile, Frank, Pat, Alan, Dylan, Brian, Scotty

Team Mike started by throwing three interceptions on the first three drives. The third INT was returned for a TD by Al.

Touchdown Plays:
Team Al:
Touchdown #1
Touchdown #2: (our defense in man coverage) Tim ran a square out against me, and the pass was just beyond my fingertips. (the out to my right, the offense's left side)
Touchdown #3: INT ret for TD
Touchdown #4:
Touchdown #5: Despite defense highlighting the need to lockdown Steve and H, H catches a touchdown on a comeback route to the right of the end zone (the defense's left side)
Touchdown #6:

Team Mike:
Touchdown #1: at the goal line, we lined up Mike, Kile, Pat and Alan in the four interior receiver slots. I fired the ball low to Kile who caught it in his knees.
Touchdown #2: within 10 yards, Mike on the outside right, ran a whip route with Tim in man coverage. I sidearmed the ball low and away and Mike caught it diving to his left.

Missed opportunities:
Team Mike: fourth and goal inside the ten yard line, Dylan was running a fade/corner route to the left.  If coverage was sitting in the back left corner, the throw was to be on the inside. The defense lined up Al by himself on that side, so the matchup was decidedly in our favor. But my pass to Dylan was too soft, and Al was able to catch up to it to knock it down.

Strategy:
Oddly, we appeared to have the personal to win the individual match-ups on Offense and Defense, but we were continually beat in man or zone coverage on defense.

On Offense, the field was so wide, with Kile lined up on the outside left (where the field was widest) that he was basically removed from the play because the throw from QB to the sideline was so far, it was too dangerous to throw. We attempted a few too many deep shots in lieu of taking the easy 10-12 yard throws that presented themselves all the time. Two or three drives stalled out at fourth and goal from 10-15 yards away.

Recap: Sunday Football - Winnetka 9-25-16

7v7
Teams: Al, House, Tom, Cooper, Zach, Hollister, Chris, Chris?, Kile
vs. Frank, Mike, Brian, Darius, Tony, Ryan, Davey, Dylan, Scott
Score: 5-5

Touchdown plays:
Team House:
#1:
#2: Long bomb to Tom?
#3: Long bomb to Hollister with Brian in man coverage and unable to catch up.
#4:
#5: (Al at Qb, house and cooper left, Davey switched to Team House). Hollister, Chris and Chris? lined up left of center. Kile, Tom and Zach/Davey? to the right of center. defense in a 4-2 alignment. Kile came from far right, across the back middle to catch the TD.

Team Frank:
#1: Jump ball to Mike against Cooper in zone coverage to the left front pylon.
#2: Dylan int-ret-TD
#3: Darius ran an angle route to the front left pylon, with Ryan running a out route long back of the end line (Ryan ended up running his route too shallow). Darius and Ryan both reasonably open, but Darius caught the ball for the TD.
#4: Mike ran a comeback route from slot left, but was not open, as I scrambled, he worked back to my right as I ran left, and he caught the TD.
#5: Mike lined up alone to the right. Chris? played press coverage and Mike broke the press and caught the "back shoulder" (wobbly) throw for TD.

Missed opportunities:
#1 Int: waited for Dylan to turn around on a hitch route, and having already looked that direction, threw to mike under pressure. underneath coverage from House led to his INT.
#2 Int: ran post routes with both Dylan and Scott. Didn't like the coverage against Dylan, so tried to throw away the ball, but my overthrow ended up in a spot where Scott's defender was able to make a play on the ball and intercept it.

#1: 4th and goal: Mike popped open in the back of the end zone on a post route, but I overthrew it thinking I needed more height to allow for possible jump ball. Mike suggested more zip on the ball.
#2: 4th and goal from the 1 foot line: Rush came in quick and might have been early. Tony, Brian and Scott were running a combo route on the right: Brian and Scott slanting in, with Tony running underneath. But he didn't turn around when I expected him to, leading to a sack, loss of downs.
#3: Darius ran a simple turnaround route in the end zone. Dylan run an out to the front cone, leaving Tony to run a corner route to the back left pylon. But Tony never completed his route, breaking it off near the back middle of the end zone. No rush from the defense, and I waited for Tony to break to the back of the end zone, but he never did. So I tried to fire the ball into darius low and away from his defender. But Chris made a nice play to deflect the ball away.

Strategy:
-Defense: with 7 defenders, we played some 4-2 and 3-3. It was important to mix up the zone looks because 3-3 was so easily picked apart, but provided better deep pass defense against their team speed. In the 4-2, weakness was over the corners and away from the safeties. That weakness allowed team house to move down the field and score their final TD.
-Offense: early on, we moved the ball well by taking what the defense gave us. Some drops by Tony and Darius, but Ryan, Darius, Mike moved the ball with 10-12 yard receptions. After throwing the two INT's, settled down by going back to what was working earlier on (the 10-12 yard comeback/turnaround routes on the outside with the occasional route to stretch the defense). Noticed that by bringing a few guys across the formation, they would pop open as the defense moved vertically with our receivers.
*Example 1: Tony running left to right after receivers on the right cleared out the zone (tony dropped the ball)
*Example 2: Tony running right to left from right slot, and running into a huge hole in the zone for a big gains.
*Example 3: Darius running short drag route and Dylan running the same route deeper from right to left. Darius caught the ball in stride, wide open for a large gain.
*Example 4: Tony and Brian running curl routes into each others' seams. Darius and Dylan to the left, Mike, Ryan Brian to the right. at the snap, I noticed the hole in the middle of the field, Brian's route carried him right into that zone, and though I saw it right away, I hesitated, which caused the defense to flinch ever so slightly, opening up the throwing window for an easy completion to Brian.

Recap: Sunday Football - Winnetka 9-11-16

Teams: Al, Mike, Danny, Sagar, Cooper vs. Frank, Hollister, Darius, Padrig, Brian
All-time defender: Davey
Score: 3-3

Touchdown plays:
Team Al:
#1:
#2: square out from slot for big mike, with Danny outside. Brian outside coverage, Frank, slot coverage. Playing man.
#3: Mike in motion from left to right, man coverage, Danny catches crossing route after Mike crosses.

Team Frank:
#1: Hot Route: Darius saw matchup against Sagar/Al, and made sight adjustment to run a go route. I leaned to the outside and caught the ball in the back corner over Sagar's reach.
#2: all turn around at at the goal line, darius slides outside, catches ball low and away
#3: Darius outside runs slant in, brian runs outside slant, defense in zone coverage, but outside corner (danny) follows Darius across, leaving huge hole for Brian to scamper to end zone

Strategy:
-Defense: Match ups favored playing man-to-man with the occasional zone look to mix it up. Otherwise, the man coverage stymied their offense for most of the day.
-Offense: early we took too many risks throwing down-field. Adjusted by taking what defense was giving. often taking the 10-15 yard completions on the outside, and in the seams/slot. One interception thrown when Brian's called route was a go which we audible out of but he still ran it. Checked down to Padrig, but the ball got tipped and intercepted.
